How to NOT write an about page on your website
There are just some things that need to stay off your About me page. I don’t care if you’re a product-based business, graphic designer, copywriter, coach or any profession that requires you to have a website.
Some things should be kept to yourself.
Here is my list of things you should NOT put on your “About Me” page.
That you love Coffee.
Who gives a damn? Why and when did everyone start making it a fun fact? Nothing about that makes you interesting.
Where you went to college.
I'm going to hold your hand when I say this. Nobody cares. The only circumstance where this makes sense is if there is a direct story correlation to your alma mater and your brand. Other than that, keep it on Linkedin.
Lastly, your hometown or where you currently live.
I think you all are catching what I'm throwing down here. These are things about YOU personally, that don't have anything to do with why someone would purchase your product. Your story needs to be relatable, yes. But it also needs to relate.... to your brand.
Every word on your website matters. You don't have much time to waste. You want those lurkers pressing the add to cart button as soon as possible. Keep the fun facts for your hinge dates.
If you wrote any of these things on your website and they don’t have a unique story tied to your brand, remove it please.
These ice breaker fun facts may be important to you, but they are not doing your business any favors.
I care about you and so do your customers. But there are other very important details that belong on that page.
If you don’t want to touch your website copy ever again. A website copywriting expert is what you need.
