3 things in my website copywriting process that my clients love
As a website copywriter and brand messaging strategist, I am so much more than a writer. I am a business owner. Which means my client experience is almost more important than the work I do. So if you’re a freelancer looking to improve your client experience, I have a few things I’d love to share that my clients enjoy during our time together.
I overcommunicate
Sorry, I’m annoying as hell. There is no such thing as too much information in my books. Someone is spending their hard-earned coin on me, best believe I will keep them in the loop about everything. One of my biggest fears is that my clients become so confused about a particular part of my process that it leaves a bad taste in their mouths about my professionalism. So if you’re a client of mine, expect a lot of reminders. I haven't received a complaint yet, so I must be doing something right.
I have a formal process
Not to piggyback off of my own point, but this is where freelancers lose clients. A lack of processes probably makes your job a lot harder. Now think about how irritating that is for the client. In the beginning, you have to wing it until you find your groove, but improving your client experience should be ongoing. This is why every client gets sent a feedback form. It is always a pain when things aren’t positive, but hey, I chose this entrepreneur life. I may overcommunicate, but they know it's coming. From the inquiry to the project end date, there is a way I run things that helps both of us.
I assume they know nothing
Now I don’t mean this to be a smart ass, but using copywriting and marketing jargon tends to be unproductive. I treat my entire process as if they have no idea what a copywriter is or what we do, and I have had the least amount of confusion with this strategy. No, I don’t mean I talk to grown adults like a child; I just make our conversations simple. I walk through every tech tool we’ll use, I ensure they know they can email me whenever they need to, and I don’t make them feel bad for not knowing information that is “common sense” to me.
If there is anything you, as a Freelance Copywriter, should have gotten from this blogs it should have been to make your client experience simple and easy. The more you complicate things, the fewer bookings you’ll have in the future. We don’t need a viral Storytime going around about how horrible it is to work with you.
Let’s say you read all of this and still don’t know where to start. I got you. I offer 1:1, 90-minute strategy calls with freelance by request only. Pop me an email (dalji@mocktalecreative.com), and we’ll discuss how I can help with your freelance business in 2026!
