4 Reasons You Shouldn’t Hire A Copywriter

I often have to explain my worth to potential customers. Not in a derogatory way, but in an educational way. Believe it or not, not everyone understands the purpose of a copywriter. Which is funny because every business needs one. You need words to communicate with customers, investors, retailers, buyers, and more.

However, a small percentage of businesses may not benefit from a copywriter. Here is a list of 4 reasons a copywriter may be a waste of your brand's funds.

You enjoy confusing investors

You’d be surprised how many investors pass on good brands because their pitch decks can't translate why they need the funds. This includes making it clear what your brand positioning is, who you serve, and why you are the best person to run this brand. Creating the product is a minuscule portion of being a brand founder. It’s just what's going to get you started. Being able to write a pitch deck that makes investors want to throw money at you is no easy feat. A copywriter could do this for you, but if you want to stay bootstrapped, that’s cool too.

You don’t want DTC sales

A cool  ad and viral TikToks don’t move sales. They bring awareness. Once a visitor lands on your website, that's where the real work begins. Going all out on marketing strategy and collateral, but doing your website DIY is a huge mistake. Every touchpoint on your website is an opportunity to drive a sale. A copywriter can help you with this, but if you'd prefer just a pretty website with no sales, that’s cool too.

You want your customers to shop at your competitors instead.

The best way not to get sales is to send them to your competitors. A confused buyer moves on. Is your brand story, positioning, and mission prevalent everywhere? Is your branding clear on why you are the better option? If so, that’s exactly why your competitors are rolling in dough, and you keep hiring these random agencies to fix unrelated problems. A copywriter can fix this, but if you love your competitors more, that’s cool, too.

You ‘d rather keep guessing why your website traffic doesn’t convert.

Making decisions for your business based on feelings rather than data is the best way to get low conversion rates. I mean the best. Your website analytics give you concrete evidence on what is and isn’t working. You are choosing to ignore or not learn those patterns, which is costing you sales. No other way to increase DTC sales than by paying attention to visitor behavior. A copywriter can help you with this, but if you don’t care about your high bounce rate, that’s cool too.

Are you following the patterns? I bet you didn’t know a copywriter was the solution to these pain points. Story of my life, I told y’all I am constantly explaining to folks what I do for a living.

If you don’t want a copywriter to increase your sales, get you investor funding, and have consumers ignore your competitors, then don’t hire one.
