The Biggest Mistake Copywriters Make
The Biggest Mistake New Copywriters Make
As a brand strategist and website copywriter for CPG, food, and beverage brands, I’ve had a client book a discovery call without reviewing my portfolio because that's how much they enjoyed my personality. My social media feed showcased my unique perspective, my humor, and my copywriting strategy. Which made them see me as the right investment for their brand. Not that I’ve worked with Pepsi, Unilever, and L’Oréal.
Your problem as a copywriter is that you care too much about your title and your numbers. Your dream client doesn't give a damn about who you are. What can you do for them?
Whether you are cold-pitching, creating lead magnets, networking, etc. Your goal is to come up with ways to let your ideal client know how good it can get.
DORA.
Write down on a piece of paper what the symptoms of NOT hiring you as their copywriter are and why they should care. That is how you position yourself when you are pitching to clients or whatever marketing and sales strategy you choose.
For example, if my client didn’t hire me as their brand strategist and website copywriter for their CPG brand, they would've continued spending money on marketing and Ad’s that had very little ROI.
Do yourself a favor and leave the number and brands on your portfolio. Come to your client as a human being with solutions for their problems.
If you find yourself still unsure how to get copywriting clients or how to appeal to them, I got you. In this YouTube video I break down my exact strategy to get clients.
